This is the new BMW 1-series Coupe, the next car to come out of BMW’s famed M Division. Just ahead of the launch of the M3 GTS (a stripped-out, track-focussed M3 with an enlarged 4.4-litre V8), BMW has released this teaser video of its next M car, the 1-series M Coupe
What? So it’s not an BMW M1?
Nope, that name is reserved for BMW’s legendary supercar, but it should still be pretty tasty. We hear there’s a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six under the bonnet, producing somewhere around 350bhp, and an M Division-spec interior, while this video shows off the chunky bodykit with a deep front bumper and four exhausts.

BMW is continuing to build up the hype ahead of the launch of its next M car – this is a teaser video giving us our first glimpse of the undisguised BMW 1-series M Coupe
So what’s new, and what do we already know about the BMW 1-series M Coupe?

What’s new is our first look at this hot 1-series’ butch bodykit, complete with an engorged front bumper and triple air intakes. There are CSL-alike 19-inch wheels too, and sitting between the cross-drilled front discs is a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six, producing 335bhp and 369lb ft. Drive, thankfully, goes to just the rear wheels, and they’ll be a choice of either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. There’ll be an M diff too, but we hear it might be on the options list as BMW’s money men fight to keep the list price under £40k.

New Honda NSX

You're looking at the long-awaited successor to Honda's NSX. After years of on-off speculation, we will finally see the new supercar in thinly veiled concept guise next month.


The company says this low-slung coupe 'provides a glimpse of the next-generation Acura exotic sports car' - but insiders openly talk of this being the new NSX. Acura is Honda's American luxury brand (think Honda's Lexus) and the Advanced Sports Car Concept will be shown at the Detroit Motor Show on 7 January. No more details are available at this stage, but we do know that Honda boss Takeo Fukui will whisk the covers off. CAR Online understands the new model will remain mid-engined - a high-revving V10 is rumoured - and will be a GT-style supercar. This teaser image reveals a squat supercar whose long rear deck confirms a mid-engined layout. Powerfully sculpted haunches and quad exhausts lend the car a purposeful poise. Honda has sold around 5000 NSX models in the UK since its launch in 1990, and the car only went off sale last year. The US was the car's biggest market.

Honda's future: small cars, no NSX or Euro Acura

Honda chief executive Takanobu Ito today spelled out his vision for the next decade at Honda to CAR Online. No successor to the NSX is under development, but there will be a smaller city car slotting under the Jazz in Honda's range. It will be launched in Asia at first, potentially following in the rest of the world.

Ito, who is also president of Honda R&D, said that the company had no firm plans for a pure battery electric vehicle at this stage – the onus is on hybrid petrol electric cars and fuel-cell models.

So the Honda HSV-10 GT used to be an NSX?

Yes. Back in 2008 CAR’s spies snapped the front-engined road car testing at the Nurburgring, but in the midst of worldwide recession Honda put the project on hold. But rather than wasting all its research work, Honda'sR&D team used the basis of the car to create a racer that can compete in the GT500 class of Japan’s SuperGT endurance series.

Honda Jazz (2008): first official pictures

Here are the first pictures of the all-new Honda Jazz, the follow-up to the super-clever supermini that’s been on sale since 2002. You’ll have to wait until autumn 2008 for Honda’s UK dealers to launch the Jazz, but CAR has already pored all over the new supermini to bring you a full preview of the latest mini.

So what’s the new Jazz like?

Our first impressions are that it’s an easy-to-use model – with first-rate ergonomics. You can see why so many older drivers buy the Jazz; it’s easy to  own, a cinch to get in and out of and the cabin quality is impressive.

Honda says it’s given the new Jazz a ‘big car’ feel, so although it may look similar to its predecessor, it’s longer by 55mm (to 3900mm) and wider by 20mm (to 1695mm). The wheelbase is 50mm longer, too, and a slightly wider front track is claimed to make it more agile.

You're looking at the new Honda Jazz Hybrid, a new version of Honda's supermini, which takes the firm's tally of petrol-electric cars to four. Take that, Toyota.

Honda will introduce the hybrid Jazz as part of a 2011 facelift. It's the first time hybrid power has been available in the supermini segment.
What's under the skin of the 2011 Honda Jazz Hybrid?

The Jazz Hybrid features the same 1.3-litre petrol engine which does service in the Insight and Civic hybrid, assisted by an electric motor and putting its power down via a CVT automatic shifter. Honda hasn’t homologated the Jazz Hybrid yet, but claims its internal tests saw the car return 64.2mpg and 104 g/km CO2 – the Insight, depending on spec, returns 61.4-64.2mpg, and 101-105g/km.

Honda Civic Type R UK sales to cease

The Honda Civic Type R is dead. Or it is at least in Europe, as the high-revving, naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine that powers Honda's hot hatch can't meet forthcoming emissions requirements
So Honda has been forced to kill off the Civic Type R?

That's right – the Civic Type R can’t meet the latest Euro5 emissions regulations that come into force at the end of 2010, meaning in the UK and most other European countries (a tiny handful have Euro5 exemption) the Civic Type R will cease to be. If you live outside Europe then you’re still in luck as the Swindon-built Type R will continue to be sold in markets as far afield as Australia and South Africa.
