This is the new BMW 1-series Coupe, the next car to come out of BMW’s famed M Division. Just ahead of the launch of the M3 GTS (a stripped-out, track-focussed M3 with an enlarged 4.4-litre V8), BMW has released this teaser video of its next M car, the 1-series M Coupe
What? So it’s not an BMW M1?
Nope, that name is reserved for BMW’s legendary supercar, but it should still be pretty tasty. We hear there’s a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six under the bonnet, producing somewhere around 350bhp, and an M Division-spec interior, while this video shows off the chunky bodykit with a deep front bumper and four exhausts.

BMW is continuing to build up the hype ahead of the launch of its next M car – this is a teaser video giving us our first glimpse of the undisguised BMW 1-series M Coupe
So what’s new, and what do we already know about the BMW 1-series M Coupe?

What’s new is our first look at this hot 1-series’ butch bodykit, complete with an engorged front bumper and triple air intakes. There are CSL-alike 19-inch wheels too, and sitting between the cross-drilled front discs is a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six, producing 335bhp and 369lb ft. Drive, thankfully, goes to just the rear wheels, and they’ll be a choice of either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. There’ll be an M diff too, but we hear it might be on the options list as BMW’s money men fight to keep the list price under £40k.

Under the bonnet of the BMW 1-series M Coupe is a forced-induction six-cylinder engine, but purists should be kept happy by the fact that it’s still rear-drive and is only available with a manual gearbox. Plus the BMW 1-series M Coupe will cost less than £40k.

BMW's M Division has unleashed a track version of its upcoming 1-series M Coupe, which made its debut as the 2011 MotoGP safety car at the season-opening MotoGP race in Qatar on 20 March.
